ELISA ( Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay)
The ELISA ( Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) is a screening test used to detect the presence of antigen and/or antibodies against pathogen inpatient Serum/Plasma.
ELISA tests cover a broad spectrum of tests from Infectious to Vector-Borne to Wellness related diseases. It can detect both recent and past infection and have been widely used globally for more than 2 decades.
The ELISA Reader is an integral part of most mid-size laboratory systems today. This instrument is a microprocessor-controlled, general purpose photometer system designed to read and calculate the result of assays, which are read in a microtiter plate. Therefore, the performance of the ELISA test kits and reliability in their test results depend heavily on a good quality ELISA Reader being used for performing the ELISA tests.
With the advancement in technology and communications, Mobile phones have become an integral part of everyday life. These devices emit electromagnetic radiation & hence it is essential to be aware of their harmful effects (if any) on operators and medical equipment used in the laboratories. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) due to radiofrequency (RF) radiation from mobile phones can interfere in performance or errors in test results of ELISA Reader by the exposure to the 900 MHz mobile phones in the laboratory.
Many studies have been conducted, and it is established that ELISA reader does not interfere by mobile phones exposure at a close contact of less than 5 cm distance, due to electromagnetic shielding of the photodetector of ELISA reader.
J Mitra & Co. offers ELISA Reader having product specifications as per customer requirement and is as follows:
ELISA Reader ; Measuring Range: 0.0 – 4.0000 Abs ,Accuracy: ± 1.0% , USB port, SD card slot , RS-232 & RJ45 interface, Touch screen display. Easily programmable for Qualitative and Quantitative tests, Includes 4PL Method for Quantitative tests, In-built thermal printer ( Additional printing option of attaching external printer), Storage Capacity of 1,000 patient data or 10,000 sample records, HIS & LIS compatible with application support and Auto back up in case of a power outage.
To Conclude, Mobile phone radiofrequency does not interfere with ELISA Reader performance.
